Q&A with Laurel Saville, Author of North of Here. On-sale March 1, 2016
Q. Tell us about your new novel, North of Here. What’s it about?
A. This is always such a challenging question – how to encapsulate a complete novel. I suppose it’s about the allure and mystique, as well as the romance and reality, of a particular landscape; the emotional perils of trying to help someone bent on self-destruction; misunderstandings between class and culture; the different ways people try to find or make meaning in their life; the unforeseen impacts of a random meeting with a seductively charming person. And in the end, like so many things, it’s about the power and limitations of love.
This new novel explores the dynamic and tragic events that overlap and tangle the lives of four people from very different backgrounds who are searching for meaning, family and love amidst the dark and mysterious mountains of the Adirondack Park in upstate New York.
Henry and Rachel Reaches #1 Bestseller status on Amazon
During the five-minute and thirteen-second segment, Laurel shared the historical background on the letters that inspired her to write the novel and discussed the importance of handwritten notes. Laurel stated, “It’s very interesting when you’re writing a book. You start with these pieces and characters and you try to just fill it in. As you’re writing, crazy things happen. I’m always very surprised. The secrets appear to me right in the midst of writing.”
The segment credited Laurel as the author of Henry and Rachel, full time writer, and graduate of New York University. It included prominent color images of the book cover, the original letters that inspired the story, as well as vintage black and white images of both Henry and Rachel. Viewers were also directed to Amazon.com where they can pre-order the novel.
